The Wyoming State Library has been receiving 1 TB hard drives full of data, and is loading them onto the server. As of late July, we have 285 newspapers loaded for 50 cities for 48 years, or 281,760 full pages and 1,705,284 articles. We are still hiring metadata workers to augment the records. The project is taking off, but right now it is all behind the scenes. We have an anticipated launch date of September 2008.

The Wyoming State Archives has finished copying the master microfilm onto polyester film and sending those copies to the vendor, PTFS. PTFS is busy scanning reels and processing images. The Wyoming State Library has been receiving 1 TB hard drives full of data every few weeks, and loading them onto the server. As of early May, we have 20 newspapers loaded for ten cities for 21 years, or 44,000 full pages and 233,000 articles. We have begun hiring metadata workers to start augmenting the records. The project is really starting to take off, but right now it is all behind the scenes. We don't have an anticipated launch date, but check back here for more updates.

The State Library has upgraded its contract with SirsiDynix to use their Digital Library Solution to digitize the historic newspapers. The result of a strategic partnership between SirsiDynix and PTFS Digital Archiving Solutions (PTFS) of Bethesda, MD, SirsiDynix Digital Library is a comprehensive, end-to-end solution for storing, accessing and managing libraries' digital collections.
The State Archives has sent the first group of microfilm reels to PTFS for quality testing. Digitization should begin in January, 2007.
Two weekly papers published in Dayton have been discovered: The Dayton Record, est. 1896 and published until 1902, edited and published by M.M. Neeves, and the Dayton Harpoon, which appears to have been published only in 1901 by Hayden M. White.
We also discovered the Arminto Flock Master, est. in 1915, edited by H.Y. Lockwood and published by J.E. Hanway. This was published at least through 1918 and perhaps longer.
There is no microfilm of these titles and we will be seeking print copies. Please contact the State Library if you know where any may be.
