Who: The partners in the Wyoming Newspaper Project are the Wyoming State Library, the Wyoming Library Community, the University of Wyoming Libraries, the American Heritage Center, the Wyoming Press Association, and the Wyoming Department of State Parks and Cultural Resources, which includes the State Archives.
What: Digitizing all Wyoming newspapers from 1849 - 1922. This will cover every Wyoming county, which includes approximately 275 newspaper titles, and approximately 800,000 pages of newsprint. These newspapers will be available in full text, fully searchable, in an online database available to the public, free of charge.
When: 1849, when the first newspaper was published in Ft. Laramie, to 1922, which is the cut off date for items to be free of copyright restrictions.
Why: The end result of this project will result in more exposure to Wyoming and Wyoming history. It will be helpful to researchers of all types, from within Wyoming, nationwide, and the world.
